Wanted: 500,000 new pilots and engineers in the next 20 years, says Boeing

More than 500,000 new airline pilots and engineers will be needed in the Asia-Pacific region during the next 20 years, according to Boeing forecasts. The outlook anticipates the need for 248,000 new commercial airline pilots and 268,000 new technicians through 2035. “We are continuing to see a significant need for new pilots and maintenance technicians in the Asia-Pacific region and across the globe,” said Sherry Carbary, vice president, Boeing Flight Services. In the Oceania region 13,000 new pilots and 17,000 technicians – licensed engineers rated to work on different types of aircraft – will be needed.
